Sharon Sanders Volunteer (Day) BSL is one of those things I wished I had done years ago! I used to use Makaton with children I used to work with but I knew I wanted to learn more. An opportunity came up for me to go along to a BSL foundation course, so off I went with Samantha, my sister-in-law. That was back in 2009 and I have never looked back since. We, Samantha and I, are currently on our Level 2 course and absolutely love it. BSL has enabled me to communicate with people in the Deaf community and helped me extend my business to more people.
I have truly enjoyed this new learning experience as its very “Hands On!!”. There is paperwork involved but it isn’t as much as I expected. I’m not a very good student when it comes to the academic and paperwork side of things, but as BSL is very practical it’s made learning fun.
I definitely plan to take my “newly learnt skill” forward to possibly teach others, interpret and who knows what else.
