Breaking down the communication barrier between the deaf and the hearing

The Fylde Coast BSL Centre was founded in 2007 by Janice Crossland-Jones. Since then we have helped many students achieve learning the basics of British Sign Language (BSL) on our Foundation course to continuing up to a BSL NVQ 4 Signature certified qualification.

For more information on courses available please contact Michelle on 01253 628130 or visit us at 1st Floor, 235 Church Street, Blackpool, Lancashire FY1 3PB.

The Fylde Coast BSL Team would like to say a big Well Done to Samantha Haysom for signing along to the song 'Something Inside So Strong' at Blackpool Pride on Saturday 15th May 2010. Samantha was taught by Janice Crossland-Jones and did us all proud!!

Congratulations to staff from HMP Kirkham for completing the Foundation Course May 2010. Well done from The Fylde Coast BSL Centre Team!

Congratulations to the students from Carr Hill High School in Kirkham for passing BSL Foundation Course with course tutors Samantha Haysom and Sharon Sanders

Sharon Kelly

Well done to Sharon Kelly for passing her Signature BSL Level 1.  Sharon has worked for Patient Transport for 3 1/2 years and wanted to learn BSL  to make communiaction easier with patients and also to make them feel more at ease and take their minds off their health issues. This is a great acheivement for the local Deaf communtiy as Sharon is the first ambulance driver from The Fylde Coast BSL Centre and Blackpool to pass Level 1!

Well Done!

We would like to say a big congratulations to all Level Three students 2008-2009 as they have all passed!!! The moderator came to the centre on Friday 16th October 2009 and was very impressed with all the work that had been put in, both by students and Paul-Michael and myself. He commented on the vast amounts of feedback given to students and he was also very impressed with the paperwork, especially The Fylde Coast BSL Centre logo! Both myself and Paul-Michael are extremely proud of all of these students, four of which are from Manchester and a few from Blackpool, and we are now looking forward to working with our second, larger Level Three class at the Solaris Centre, South Promenade, Blackpool, fortnightly, 11am-4pm. Good luck guys!!

Janice Crossland-Jones

Congratulations!

Georgia and Callum from Kincraig Primary School Blackpool were awarded a certificate for learning the song ' Heal The World' by Michael Jackson which was performed in front of the Deputy Mayor of Blackpool during the opening ceremony of the Children's Centre. September 2009
- Sharon Sanders

I would just like to say a huge thank you to Jan, Kayla, Kelly, Heather and Michelle for the support given to me whilst I have been learning BSL with my sister-in-law, Samantha.

- Lynne, Blackpool Council

I have just completed the BSL Foundation Course at Progress House and would like to say how enjoyable this was. It was a pleasure to learn in such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The content of the course and the way it was taught by Jeanne was excellent.
